Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has secretly returned to Uganda after being flown to Nairobi for specialized treatment in March.
Kadaga, according to her family members, arrived at Entebbe International Airport at 4:00pm this past Saturday, April 13.
“It is true, we picked her from the Old Airport Terminal on Saturday evening. She is recuperating from the illness,” said a close family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity to protect the Speaker’s privacy.
According to classified finance records, Parliament chartered a plane to carry Kadaga from Nairobi to Kampala.
By landing at the Old Airport, it appears Kadaga wanted her return to go unnoticed for privacy reasons.
Her illness, which was widely covered by the media, has raised concerns about her ability to steer the business of Parliament.
ChimpReports broke news about Kadaga’s admission at Nakasero Hospital after falling ill, a matter that had been kept as a top secret.
Nevertheless, on arrival at the Old Airport, Kadaga disembarked the plane without any help. However, she had to be helped to board a private car.
Kadaga’s Principal Private Secretary (PPS) Peter Gusiku was the only Parliament official at the Old Airport to receive Kadaga.
A trusted relative and driver were also present.
Multiple family members said Kadaga did not want to use her official armoured convoy as news of her return would quickly spread in the public domain.
Contacted, the Speaker’s spokesperson Sam Obbo said a news statement would be prepared in due course.
Kadaga, who lives in Muyenga, a leafy Kampala suburb, recently wrote to Parliament, saying she would return soon.
“I am glad to report that due to God’s Mercy and untiring efforts of doctors in Uganda and Kenya, I do now have a better bill of health,” she said.
